With a fresh setting comes a roster of fresh faces. Think of this as your Season 4 yearbook, where we introduce you to the characters who will be attending the new school and shaping the season.
Asa Butterfield as Otis
About the Character: Otis was Moordale’s go-to student sex therapist, but now that he’s moved on to Cavendish College, he faces the challenge of establishing himself as the trusted expert on a new campus. While Otis excels at helping his clients, he often neglects those closest to him. His actions can sometimes be self-indulgent, leading to strained friendships and romances. Adding to the complexity, Otis is in a long-distance relationship with Maeve, who is studying in the United States.
Gillian Anderson as Jean
About the Character: Jean is Otis’s mother, exuding sexuality and confidence as a brilliant therapist. However, a complicated birth has left her low on energy, distracted, and emotionally disconnected from her newborn, Joy. Coping with single motherhood isn’t easy for Jean, and she takes on a new challenge as the host of a sex and relationship radio show.
Emma Mackey as Maeve
About the Character: Maeve is fiercely intelligent, and beneath her tough exterior, she is complex, loyal, and kind to those she cares about. Having left Moordale for an exciting opportunity, Maeve is now living her dream in the US, enjoying both the social and academic aspects of American life. However, she can’t help but miss Otis. This season, Maeve is more mature and levelheaded than ever, determined not to end up back at the caravan park where she grew up.
Ncuti Gatwa as Eric
About the Character: Eric, Otis’s best friend, was once bullied at Moordale but finds a warm welcome at Cavendish College as he joins the Coven, a popular and beloved group. Eric is out and proud, except when he’s at church, where he fears he won’t be accepted. He’s known for his humor, zest for life, and readiness to explore his queer identity with his new friends.
Connor Swindells as Adam
About the Character: Adam, who was initially Moordale’s biggest bully, revealed his kind and vulnerable side after coming out as bisexual and dating Eric. However, their breakup led Adam to leave school and pursue a career training dogs. Despite his awkwardness, Adam craves fatherly love, though he may not readily admit it.
Mimi Keene as Ruby
About the Character: Ruby, once the leader of Moordale’s popular group, the Untouchables, finds herself out of her element at Cavendish. She’s known for her cattiness, style, and occasional cruelty, but her harsh critique of others stems from her own insecurities. Ruby’s home life is stressful, and despite her outward appearance, she doesn’t come from a wealthy family. Beneath her tough exterior, Ruby reveals herself to be extremely vulnerable and complex.
Aimee Lou Wood as Aimee
About the Character: Aimee, Maeve’s best friend, is sweet, kind, nurturing, and occasionally ditzy – qualities that make her endearing. Aimee’s journey involves healing from a traumatic experience after being sexually assaulted on a bus, as she strives to regain autonomy over her body.
George Robinson as Isaac
About the Character: Isaac, Maeve’s former love interest, lives with his brother Joe after their addict parents were deemed unfit to care for them. Isaac is witty, blunt, and studying at Cavendish in pursuit of an artistic career. A disability resulting from an accident hasn’t dampened his sense of humor, as he enjoys jokingly misleading people about his wheelchair use.
Kedar Williams-Stirling as Jackson
About the Character: Jackson, once destined to be Moordale Secondary’s Olympic swimming champion, abandoned his dreams when anxiety took over and revealed his true passion lay elsewhere. While he’s no stranger to admirers, he yearns for deep emotional connections.
Thaddea Graham as Sarah “O” Owen
About the Character: “O” operates a sex therapy clinic at Cavendish College, steadily building a devoted client list. As an empath, she’s a wellspring of insightful observations and valuable advice. However, she keeps her emotions close to her chest and lacks a close-knit group of friends.
Dua Saleh as Cal
About the Character: Cal, a self-assured stoner, moved from America as a teenager and came out as non-binary at 14. They seek to maintain their friendship with Jackson, though Jackson still carries romantic feelings for them. At Cavendish, Cal’s heart starts to flutter for Aisha, one of the college’s most popular students.
Chinenye Ezeudu as Viv
About the Character: Viv is an intellectual powerhouse with grand ambitions. Despite her packed schedule and determination to attend an elite university, she remains compassionate, rational, and pragmatic. She also happens to be Jackson’s best friend.
Dan Levy as Thomas Molloy
About the Character: Thomas Molloy, a renowned author, holds sway over all his students, including Maeve. Openly queer, he exudes dry humor and employs an unconventional teaching style, believing in tearing down his students to rebuild them in his image, especially those with the most potential.
Alexandra James as Aisha
About the Character: Aisha, a member of the popular group known as the Coven, is deaf and enjoys fundraising and making a positive impact on others. She’s a cool nerd, deeply engrossed in tarot, astrology, and the occasional gossip session.
Anthony Lexa as Abbi
About the Character: Abbi is the charismatic leader of the Coven, reigning supreme at Cavendish. Her trans identity adds to her confidence, magnetism, generosity, and loyalty. Everyone wants to be her or be her friend.
Felix Mufti as ROMAN
About The Character: Roman is goofy and a great listener. He’s trans-masculine, has a wealthy, supportive family and got access to gender-affirming private health care when he needed it. Abbi and Roman have been together for a while and are the ultimate power couple.
Alistair Petrie as MICHAEL GROFF
About the Character: Michael is Adam’s dad and the ex-headmaster of Moordale Secondary. He has a tense relationship with Adam, but since divorcing Maureen, losing his job, and living alone in a small apartment, Michael realizes that he needs to repair his relationship with Adam and start making amends for his destructive behavior.
Samantha Spiro as MAUREEN GROFF
About the Character: Maureen is Adam’s mother and Michael’s ex-wife. She’s compassionate, caring, and kind, wanting nothing more than for Adam and Michael to reconcile. She’s living her best life: going on dates, redecorating the house, and going to martial arts classes.
Lisa McGrilli as JOANNA
About the Character: Joanna is Jean’s younger sister. She’s a drifter, always the life of the party but completely directionless. Joanna disregards responsibility and lives in complete denial of her traumatic past. She’s had lots of intense, but not serious, relationships which always end before she becomes vulnerable enough to truly let anyone in. She’s warm, funny, and loving when with her family.
Joanna’s introduction will allow the audience to “discover more about Jean’s past and how she became the woman she is,”
